June 27, 2011, (Sawf News) - The iconic red and black jacket worn by Michael Jackson in his super hit Thriller video sold for $1.8 million at an auction in LA on Sunday, June 26.
The jacket was reportedly bought by Milton Verret, an entrepreneur and philanthropist from Austin, Texas.
The two-day auction, organized by Julien's Auctions of Beverly Hills, was held on the 2nd death anniversary of Jackson. The final auction price sold for nearly four times the anticipated sale price of $300,000.
The calfskin leather jacket was one of two red jackets worn by Michael Jackson for the 1983 filming of Thriller. Auctioned jacket can be seen in the scene where Michael break-dances with the zombies.
Part of the auction money will be donated to the Shambala wildlife reserve, where two of Jackson's Bengal tigers were re-located to after leaving his Neverland ranch in 2006.
Verret, an avid car and antique collector, has been involved in multiple charitable efforts. He plans to put the jacket on tour to raise find for children charities.
Verret also, previously, purchased a bike owned by Jay Leno. Part of the proceeds from the bike's auction was donated to a New York-based charity.
