Harman CEO sees $250M in Russian sales by 2016

MOSCOW -- Harman International Industries, one of the world's biggest audio system producers, is aiming to get its sales in Russia up to $250 million a year by 2016, betting on renewed growth in the car market, its chief executive said.

Harman, known for brands such as Harman Kardon, JBL, Mark Levinson and Infinity, generated total sales worldwide last year of $3.4 billion.

"The Russian automotive industry is growing very fast and vending premium audio system in the car is also a very big automarket business," Dinesh Paliwal told Reuters in an interview cleared for publication on Monday.

He said automotive audio systems traditionally accounted for 70 percent of Harman's revenues, with the rest coming from professional and consumer audio systems, and he expected to have a similar balance in Russia.

"It's a big market. Our partners want us to open here offices, engineering support centres and possibly in future some facilities of parts production," Paliwal said.
