Despite rumours of falling demand, Indian automotive producers were able to significantly increase their year-on-year sales. Figures published this month show that car manufacturer Tata was able to increase its total sales by 13%, partially due to increased sales of light commercial vehicles and the success of the Nano car.
The month-on-month sales were down 23%, however, since the home-grown company cut production in March due to decreased demand. Buyers had recently bought significantly less cars from the company's Indica and Indigo ranges.
Sales of sports utility vehicles were up 15% from last year while commercial vehicles rose even faster by 28%. Nano sales jumped up 184%, crossing the mark of 10,000 vehicles sold.
